The Old Curator Newsletter 15082923
with Rob James
Hi there
I hope this newsletter finds you well! As always, I've been keeping an eye on the latest happenings in the world and wanted to share some of my thoughts and observations with you.
A slow change of direction for this newsletter;
An explanation I keep getting asked by subscribers, friends and followers why I write this and how i come up with ideas and content.
So I will be sharing some concepts, methods and tools over next few weeks
There is ONE rule that takes precedent.
When an idea a thought or a concept pops up in your mind.
Make a note.
It does not matter when , walking the dog, in the shower, on the toilet, in bed.
MAKE A NOTE either in writing or on some device.
Ideally on an electronic device like your phone using a notes app
Create a note oddly called"Ideas" and append to it.
Over the next few weeks I will explore in detail how to do it. ( I use Obsidian (free) but i am also experimenting with Reflect App)
THEN
Write some content
2 ways
Stare at the screen and try and think of something OR
Feed your ideas into CHATGPT and produce a tweet then a atomic essay ( <250 word) then an article =500 words. Rewrite and use prompts to make the content human.
Thats a start- I will be sharing more of this over next few weeks here
Why you may ask?
The truth?
Because
I am sick of Gurudoo old ideas being pimped by snake oil salesmen
There is nothing new about the methods I was doing this 20 years ago
What Is new is the amazing tools and platforms available
SEO is becoming less and less important- people read and buy not search engines so the key is find a pool of hungry sharks with a common interest and feed them.
Some tools and ideas relating to the "Content Worker" business
Self Improvers Are Creating Their Own Career (Here’s How)
When I first started using Obsidian, I expected it would help me make connections between my notes and inspire new ideas. But over the last 12 months I’ve been using the app, I have also fallen in love with it as a writing tool.
Writing a novel in Markdown. As a prolific author, I am able to test and tweak my methods to come up with my own workflow and best practices more quickly than most.
You have a business. Let’s say it is an interior design company. You have a blog and a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. You write a lot and you post a lot. For a one-man show, this has just become too burdensome.
What Caught My Eye:
What Made Me Laugh:
What Made Me Think:
Did Jesus visit Cornwall? Local folklore says he sailed there as a teenager with tin merchant uncle. Did Jesus visit Cornwall? It sounds beyond belief.
What Music I Miss:
As always, I hope you find this newsletter informative and enjoyable. Feel free to reach out with any questions or thoughts you may have.
Best,
Rob James aka The Old Curator
