The Old Curator Newsletter 13052023
with Rob James
Hi there
I hope this newsletter finds you well!
As always, I've been keeping an eye on the latest happenings in the world and wanted to share some of my thoughts and observations with you.
Writing Online: A Trigger Moment?
Trigger moments refer to specific events or experiences that inspire a writer to create a particular piece of written work. These moments could be anything from a personal experience to a news story or even a dream. The trigger moment serves as the catalyst for the creative process, helping the writer to develop their ideas and shape their work.
Writing with a deadline: A student has a paper due in two days and realizes they haven't even started yet. The deadline becomes a trigger moment that forces them to start writing.
Writing when feeling inspired: A writer wakes up one morning with a new idea for a story. The excitement and inspiration they feel becomes a trigger moment that motivates them to start writing.
One way to encourage trigger moments with regards to writing is to establish a routine or schedule for writing. This can help signal to your brain that it's time to focus and be creative. Another way is to gather inspiration from various sources, such as reading books, watching movies, or going for a walk in nature. Additionally, setting specific goals or prompts for your writing can help spark ideas and motivation.

KEY POINT THIS WEEK There is nothing new if you follow/monitor others on line- they use same business model.
A common question many ask every day (even the ones who claim they are making millions) is what works when it comes to making money on line.
A clue it is not what they tell you works. THAT DID work and the final spin to rinse the last drop of cash out of a system is to sell an expensive course about it
Although most will not admit it the No 1 rule on line is:
Copy what's working for others
..... note I said copy what is working NOT copy
One thing I have seen over and over being done by successful people online is......
They write as if they are writing to themselves.
Now that might sound insane but think about it. That approach gets your brain working on what interests, worries or scares you.
You have already done the home work and as per my previous news letter when you are considering what to write about or what to get interested in
LOOK AT YOUR INTERNET HISTORY - It is telling you something.
THEN
Start keeping a journal ...a structured journal.
Start talking to yourself throughout the day and recording the spurts of information.
I'm not talking about some fancy bullet journal or gratitude journal that you see being pimped on line. Write notes in a note book or text file.
A golden rule NEVER DELETE or throw away anything you have taken the time to record. Over time things will start forming connections and ideas will take on a life of their own.
A tip have a look at Evernote it is free and is an easy way of recording anything notes, tasks, sketches and photographs. The paid version which is very reasonable has a function few people use or even know about. If you hand write a note on a post it note or scrap of paper then photograph it the text within the note becomes searchable.
Think about that - no more lost ideas or scattered snippets they are all in one place and searchable.
Right that's it for this week but 2 things to think about before next week and one simple task.
What are the last 20 things you searched for on line?
Would you pay 10 usd for an answer to whatever you were searching for information
Task - signup for Evernote and start an ideas file.
Next week were are going hunting for sharks........
What Caught My Eye:
Time management doesn't exist, as we can't control time itself. Instead, focus on managing your tasks and priorities efficiently.
What Made Me Think:
Shiny object syndrome is the phenomenon of being distracted by new and exciting opportunities. For entrepreneurs, this can mean new business ideas, or products or services that aren’t part of their current business plan.
What Made Me Laugh:
Great “Blast from the Past” music at the Kings Coronation Concerts - London
Liverpool
As always, I hope you find this newsletter informative and enjoyable. Feel free to reach out with any questions or thoughts you may have.
Best,
