Internal dialogue is a conversation with yourself that can be incredibly helpful in helping you make decisions, stay motivated and reach your goals. It allows you to better understand yourself, work through your emotions and gain clarity on difficult topics.
• It helps to reduce stress — Talking to yourself can help you pause and put things into perspective. By taking a step back and recognizing the source of your stress, you can begin to break it down into smaller parts that are easier to manage.
• It provides clarity on difficult decisions — When faced with difficult decision making, internal dialogue can help bring things into focus and allow you to weigh different options against one another. By talking out the pros and cons of your choices, it will be easier for you to make an informed decision.
• It gives access to new ideas — Engaging in an internal dialogue allows for new ideas to come forward. By pausing, reflecting and talking through different ideas in a safe environment, it can open up possibilities that were not previously considered.
It allows for self-reflection — Having an internal dialogue is one of the most effective ways for understanding one’s own thoughts and feelings about certain situations or life changes. Through this ongoing conversation with yourself, greater insight into who you are as a person can be achieved.
