The Enduring Impact of “Chariots of the Gods” on My Religious Beliefs

In 1968, I read a book called “Chariots of the Gods” for the first time, and it had a significant impact on my religious beliefs. It even caused my parents to become upset with me. After reading it, I turned away from organized religion, especially the Catholic Church, because a lot of what I had been taught no longer made sense to me.

Now, in 2023, as an adult, I recently reread the book and it still has the same effect on me. While many people may dismiss the author’s claims about aliens visiting Earth, there are still some things that exist that we could not build today. The knowledge and skills required to create these ancient structures may have been lost over time, or it’s possible that extraterrestrial visitations imparted knowledge that allowed people to build these sites in strange places.

The book raises many questions about ancient history and the skills of our ancestors. It makes us question the possibility of intelligent life beyond Earth and whether they have interacted with humans in the past. For instance, the figures on Easter Island were built and moved without the help of trees, which raises questions about how ancient people achieved this feat. Similarly, the pyramids were constructed using millions of tons of rock that were cut and treated to fit perfectly together, even though the people who built them did not have access to the wheel at the time.

Reading “Chariots of the Gods” is a worthwhile experience, as it challenges our understanding of the past and makes us reconsider the possible explanations for some of the most extraordinary structures in history. Even Stonehenge, a structure built by hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago, raises questions about why they would be concerned with the orbits of planets and celestial bodies in their day-to-day life.

Unfortunately, there are those who discredit the author’s research, and many online sources claim that he cannot be trusted. However, I believe that it’s important to make up your own mind about what to believe. “Chariots of the Gods” may have its flaws, but its message and ideas are still thought-provoking and have sparked discussions and debates for decades.

In conclusion, “Chariots of the Gods” is an important book for anyone interested in ancient history, religion, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life. It may challenge your beliefs and cause you to question the narrative you have been taught, but it’s a journey that is worthwhile and thought-provoking. The book’s message of exploration and curiosity still resonates today, and it will continue to inspire people for generations to come.
